Mr. John Endres, of Arlington Heights, who has been actively
involved as a volunteer with Women In Need Growing Stronger, or WINGS,
a transitional living facility for homeless women and their children
who reside in the North and Northwest suburbs.
Mr. George Swimmer, of Downers Grove, who is a certified public
accountant and real estate broker, a constant attendee at Village
government meetings, an advocate for the environment with the Pierce
Downers Heritage Alliance, and a fierce proponent of rail safety with
the DuPage Council for Railroad Safety
Mr. Marc Grobe, of Villa Park, who is a manager of information
systems at the Ray Graham Association for People with Disabilities.
He has been, for nine years, a tireless volunteer for Donka, Inc.,
which is the area's only no-cost program of computer training and
management of assistive technology, and job counseling for people
with disabilities and visual impairments.
Mr. Ray Mostek, of Lombard, who has been a lifelong citizen
with leadership roles in dozens of citizen organizations and nonprofits,
and, in the words of his nominators, an indefatigable citizen activist.
Ms. Mona Ahmed from Oak Park, and other citizens from Berwyn,
Oak Park, River Forest, Westchester, Lisle, Lombard, Brookfield, Warrenville,
West Chicago, St. Charles, Itasca, Deerfield, Winfield, Crystal Lake,
Glendale Heights, Hampshire, Elgin, Hinsdale, and Elmhurst, who belong
to Citizens for Clean Elections, a loose association of dozens of
very busy suburbanites who, among everything else they do, work to
reform the chokehold that big money has on influencing politics in
the State of Illinois. And,
Mr. Stephen DeLaRosa (Glendale Heights), Mr. Dan Bailey
(Wheaton), Ms. Pat Arnold (Lisle), Ms. Pat Williams (Downers
Grove), Mr. Gene Birmingham (Bensenville), Mr. John Vidmar
(Lombard), Ms. Cathy Campo (Winfield), Mr. Kevin Lindeman
(Winfield), Ms. Marcia Sasman (Glendale Heights), Mr. Dave
Segal (Elmhurst), Mr. Donn Schneider (Wheaton), Ms.
Corinne Johnson (Bensenville), Mr. Dennis Hamm (Addison)
and Ms. Rita Gonzalez (Addison), who for eight months, have
been part of the Civic Fair Steering Committee and have met to plan
this civic celebration today not merely for the day's events, but
as a beginning for a broader vision of what can be achieved by organizing
citizen groups in the suburbs.
