Strengthening Democracy at the Local Level

DIAGNOSTIC DEMOCRACY FITNESS PLAN

CAC wants to hear YOUR perspective on community engagement and local government:

What is working and what needs to be improved?

Please Take CAC’s Diagnostic Democracy Survey:
For Community Members
For Government Officials

Units of local government are the backbone of our democracy: community members are far more likely to be engaged on local issues than state or federal issues, and individuals are more likely to run for election and serve as a public official at the local level rather than the state or federal level.

CAC is partnering with the Square One Foundation to develop a Diagnostic Democracy Fitness Plan that identifies core elements local governments should have in place in order for a healthy, democratic community to thrive and to ensure a balance is in place between the rights of citizens to meaningfully participate in the democratic process and the needs of public bodies to conduct the people's business.

All during 2023, CAC will convene a variety of forums that focus improving the intersection between government and the constituents they serve, with a special eye on opening the channels of communication between community members with diverse backgrounds and public officials.
